We had a fabulous day on the golf course – helping to raise funds for a hugely important Wolverhampton based charity, The Haven.
The Haven does really valuable work to support women and dependent children affected by domestic abuse and homelessness. It is one of the largest refuge providers in the whole of the UK and the charity golf day is just one of many events that ensure services can continue by raising vital funds, as well as the profile of The Haven. The Haven has been running since 1973 and delivers practical and emotional support to those who are vulnerable to domestic abuse.
They have 6 refuges across the city offering emergency accommodation for up to 64 women and 102 children; sadly they are always full.
In addition, they offer many additional services to enable women and children to rebuild their lives following the trauma of abuse. These include community outreach, criminal justice support, a 24/7 helpline, children and young people’s services, financial and debt advice, sexual violence specialist support and counselling, among others.
Staff have years of experience at dealing with women from all kinds of backgrounds and dealing with many different forms of abuse; including but not limited to coercive control, forced marriage, financial abuse, sexual abuse and FGM. The staff are highly trained and skilled at dealing with those affected by abuse and work tirelessly to help them achieve their potential through physical, emotional and legal support.
It was a privilege to do our part for this much-valued charity, over £1,600 was raised in total, which will go directly to funding ongoing support projects at The Haven; ensuring every woman and child who reaches out, gets the support they deserve.
The Haven are always seeking to raise awareness through relationships with local businesses and community groups.
